A coroner’s inquest jury has made ten recommendations in the case of a developmentally disabled woman on Vancouver Island who died while waiting for long-term care.
76-year-old Joan Andrews died last year after she crawled over a bed railing and injured her head.
She was a client of Community Living BC at the time, at a caregiver’s Langford home.
The coroner’s inquest in Victoria heard she was never put on a waiting list for long-term care.
Nine of ten recommendations are made to CLBC.
They include implementing a training program for all home-share providers, conducting more home visits, assigning a case manager for each person in the home-share program, and explaining a consent for release of information form to the individual.
