The NDP blame HST hangover for slow food and beverage sales

The NDP say statscan numbers show that food and beverage sales numbers in BC are the lowest across Canada.

Finance critic Bruce Ralston says while the economy might be a factor the hangover over the controversial HST also plays a role.

“Just given that the number is so low relative to every other province I think that the government policy that should be fingered here is the HST it still continues to linger on.”

But when asked Ralston admitted there really isn’t much anyone can do to actually address the issue.

“Other than I suppose look for improvements in the economy overall and people having a little more take home pay.”

He says that would require a hike in wages.

The HST will be phased out March 31st 2013.
