They’ll do more than run the fleet on time

Transit Supervisors are calling for a greater role in dealing with the problem of fare evasion.

CUPE Local 4500 that represents Transit Supervisors with Coast Mountain Bus Company is proposing what it says is a solution for reducing fare evasion and improving safety for bus drivers and the public.

President Rob Woods says his members are perfectly suited in their current roles to undertake a greater responsibility in assuring compliance with fare rules and public order on buses. Woods says however, his members need the right tools and authority to deal with fare evasion.

Transit Supervisors enforce various regulations but don’t have the authority to deal with those who refuse to pay.
