It’s crunch time for mediated contract talks between the Provincial Government and the BC Teachers Federation with a deadline just over one week away but now Victoria is signalling that deadline may be flexible.
Mediator Charles Jago has until June 30th to submit his report to Government and Friday is the last scheduled day of meetings between the two sides.
Education Minister George Abbott is trying to be optimistic and says that deadline could even be relaxed if progress is being made, “We’re pleased to be flexible as a Government ’round you know some hours here or days here or there, if the parties were close to an agreement. But that again remains to be seen.”
But barring any progress, count on the Legislature being recalled in July or August to impose a contract on teachers.
