Toner beats out former Parks Board Commissioner Barnes for NDP nomination

Political newcomer Matt Toner is the NDP Candidate for Vancouver-False Creek after beating out former Parks Board Commissioner Constance Barnes Saturday.

Insiders say the difference was only six votes.

Riding President Neil Monckton says around five hundred voting members showed up, with around half casting a ballot.

“Both sides worked very hard to get out their vote.  And I think that everybody saw that it comes down to who had the best ground game and that was clearly Matt Toner.”

A representative for Barnes earlier said they were concerned over who was allowed to vote, and intended to take legal action.

Another representative now says that’s not the case and they wish Toner well for the May election.
