The chair of Translink’s board of directors has responded to a CKNW story that uncovered emails in which Translink staff made some perhaps embarassing comments.
Reporter Janet Brown made a freedom of information request after Translink refused to speak on CKNW’s Waste Patrol segment on fare evasion.
Speaking on the Bill Good Show, Chair Nancy Olewiler says Translink ‘values’ this station’s work.
“Some of the quotes were taken a bit out of context, but that’s not the point. The point is we are really grateful that we now have the legislation to go after the cheats and the theives that are stealing service and making our system less affordable for others who pay their fares.”
A CKNW investigation this year revealed Translink had no way to enforce fines for fare dodgers, which resulted in the province giving them powers to do so.
