UPDATES: Avoid Port Mann bridge: ice falls on vehicles, at least one hurt

Travellers across the new Port Mann bridge have been dodging chunks of ice falling from the cables above the span.

RCMP tell our traffic station AM 730 they are in the process of shutting the bridge down, and that at least one person has been injured.

This caller says it’s an ‘absolute nightmare:’ “Large ice balls landing on our cars! I just had one put a big dent in my hood.  It’s about a foot long, ice balls from the wires and it is like a nightmare.  It is freaky. I have a glass ceiling and it’s like, scaring the hell out of me.”

Other callers to the CKNW newsroom are reporting windshields have been cracked or entirely smashed.

Greg Johnson with TI Corporation, the Crown corporation in charge of the bridge, says safety is their top priority and they are investigating.
