Vancouver Scientology protest

A man protesting the church followed by the world’s biggest box office draw wants Tom Cruise and other high-profile celebrities to leave the church of Scientology.
Gerry Armstrong is a former Scientologist, who left the church in 1981 while working as a researcher on a biography of church founder L. Ron Hubbard.
Armstrong says he started doubting the leader who claimed he was a decorated veteran of world war two, a nuclear physicist and cured himself of blindness.
He also believes the church uses celebrities to recruit new members.

“Celebrities as well can not easily just leave the organization. They really should leave because their staying actually harms the many people who will be drawn into Scientology based on their participation, so shame on the celebrities.”

Armstrong who now lives in Chilliwack has spent more than 30 years protesting the church.
Another protest is planned Saturday at 11am outside the church of Scientology in downtown Vancouver.
