Video: Roger Waters to build his Wall in BC Place

Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters is set to bring his modern-day production of the band’s 1979 classic album, The Wall, back to Vancouver next spring as the first major concert event at the new BC Place.

The new version of the show has been in development for more than a year, said Live Nation Canada President Paul Haagenson, and the show is being re-envisioned for suitably large stadiums to give the audience a different kind of concert experience.

“From a size and scope perspective, if those iconic images and elements to the show (are) done bigger (it will) make it even better,” he said. “It’s not just a band playing on a stage, it becomes a whole theatrical experience.”

The Wall came to Rogers Arena in Dec. 2010, but Haagenson said bringing the show back was a no-brainer as only a few artists can deliver a performance and production that is worthy to play in a massive stadium.

The show will feature a new 20,000 sq. ft. wall — twice the size of it’s arena version — stretching 500 ft. wide and will use more than twice as many high-tech video projectors in the stadium production.

Graham Ramsay with BC Place said the acoustics have been tested and he hopes neighbours will be understanding when it comes to high-energy events being hosted at the stadium.

“We always want to work with the community, but this is a large entertainment venue,” Ramsay said. “Will there be some noise? Absolutely. But that is part of the entertainment community here and we will hope the general public will come join us.”

The production of The Wall will take place May 26, 2012. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. on Nov. 14.
