Wild night in Surrey

It was a wild night on the streets of Surrey.

RCMP there are investigating two seperate cases where people were run over during fights.

Inspector Dan Splinter says a teenage girl has serious injuries after being mowed down in the area of 102A Avenue and 133A Street about midnight.

“It initially came in to us as possible gunshots.  The gunshots have not been substantiated, it may have been a car backfire or something.  A young female was hit by a car.  Apparently there was some sort of a party going on in the neighbourhood.”

After the crash, Splinter says the driver tried to run away, but she was caught by police at a nearby bus stop.

Meanwhile, a man is in critical condition after he was run over in South Surrey about 9:15 p.m. in the 2500 block of 128 Street.

“Witnesses advised there was some sort of a verbal exchange between the pedestrian and the driver of a vehicle; then the pedestrian was run over.”

One person is in custody.

The Major Crimes Unit is investigating.
