Woman with machete disarmed by B.C. police

VANCOUVER – Vancouver police say they shot a machete out of the hand of a distraught woman with the help of a bean-bag gun.

Police say they were forced to shoot multiple bean bag rounds at the 49-year-old woman and used a police dog to help subdue her after a taser failed to have any effect on her.

Police say the incident took place just before noon Saturday after somebody called 911 and reported that a woman was carrying a machete in a local park.

They say police flooded the area with officers and located the woman.

They say the woman became distraught, began shouting at police and pulled the machete from her bag.

Police say they used the taser and the bean bags after the woman failed to respond to their commands.

There’s no word on charges.
