Cable network A&E is bypassing a pilot and has ordered the “Psycho” prequel “Bates Motel” straight to series says The Live Feed.
Carlton Cuse (“Lost”) and Kerry Ehrin (“Friday Night Lights”) are behind the project, inspired by Alfred Hitchcock’s 1960 classic. Pre-production is underway with casting to begin shortly ahead of a premiere in 2013.
This contemporary take explores Norman Bates’ formative years, his relationship with his mother, and the events that turned him into an infamous serial killer.
Mark Wolper and Roy Lee will also produce. The project continues A&E’s move into scripted programming following “The Glades” and “Longmire”.
