A protest on the Pattullo

If you’re travelling along the Pattullo Bridge Saturday morning, you might see a few dozen people holding hands.

They won’t be blocking traffic, but on the sidewalk, linking up to protest offshore drilling and promote clean energy.

Organizer Bernadette Keenan says it’s part of an international event with residents from mostly Surrey and New Westminster.

“The game plan is to hold hands for 15 minutes. We’ll be on the bridge, we’ll be over the pre-load sand, which represents the dirty fossil fuels that we’re in opposition to.”

She says the protesters want to do away with freeways, which encourage travelling by car — hence the rally on the Patullo, set to be expanded to six lanes.

The group plans to meet at 112th Avenue and Bridge Road at 11 a.m., and then walk to the centre of the bridge.
