Chris Zettel with the City of Cranbrook says a call came into the fire department just before 9:00 pm Pacific that the Tembec planer mill was ablaze.
He says the part of the property affected has been empty and idle for several years. He believes the building is about 30,000 square feet, “There’s some other buildings on the property; there’s a kiln for drying lumber on the property and there’s also a finger joint plant that they use for cutting down lumber and doing those sorts of things. As far as I know, those haven’t been affected at all.”
Zettel isn’t aware of any past issues with fire at the mill.
A mill in Burns Lake burned in January, another one in Prince George burned in April.
