BC’s Attorney General will take a hard look at the hang gliding industry after a tragic death.

The hang gliding industry may be in for stricter regulations following a fatal fall in the Fraser Valley last Saturday.

Attorney General Shirley Bond asked her staff to examine the issue after the death of 27 year old Lenami Godinez and says it appears the industry is self-regulating and Bond adds that may change once police and the coroner have completed their investigations.

She said “one of the potential recommendations of the coroner may be to consider regulations so I think any time an incident as tragic as this happens and there are gaps that may be identified, there are a number of ways that we can look at that, so I think we need to allow the investigations to take their course.”

Bond is making no promises though noting it’s not clear if the province has any jurisdiction over the industry.
