Burnaby teachers to lay it all out

Burnaby teachers will be at the food court in Metrotown Mall after school on Wednesday, marking in hand, hoping to educate the public.

President of the Burnaby Teachers Association, Richard Storch, says they’ll have signs inviting people to ask them questions, with the goal of educating about what teachers do outside of school hours, and are still doing during job action, “Teachers are still staying after school doing prep for their classes, doing marking and other things that are needed in order to provide instruction to students.”

Storch says the initiative may be partially motivated by the argument teachers have been doing less work during job action. But he says, there is a general concern that many people are not aware of the hours teachers put in outside of nine to three.
