Cocaine, $10,000 cash missing from Nanaimo RCMP

Mounties in Nanaimo have revealed that drugs and a stack of cash have been missing from an evidence locker since last December.

The detachment’s chief superintendant, Norm McPhail, says 0.3 grams of cocaine and $ 10,000 disappeared as they were being moved to permanent storage.

Officers from Victoria are now looking into the incident, while one constable is being investigated on misconduct allegations for his handling of the missing goods.

McPhail says the constable, who has eight years of service, has been removed from operations for now.

He adds he has ordered several changes — which are already in effect — to how exhibits are handled.
