Some Vancouver Community Centres are not giving up their fight against the City’s Park Board plan to centralizing surplus funding.
Hillcrest Community Association is holding a special community meeting on the decision Monday, and have invited the entire park board.
Association Chair Jesse Johl says the plan to spread revenue to community centres in less affluent neighborhoods will cause hardships to their facility near Queen Elizabeth Park.
“Programs and services would be cut, fees would go up, access would be restricted.”
Johl blames the board’s for underfunding at a handful of community centres, claiming they have cut the budget consistently over the last four years.
The board voted the plan in Tuesday following a nine hour meeting.
Johl says community centres across the city have gathered an undisclosed amount of money to fight the new regulations and are arranging public meetings on the issue weekly.
