Is oil pipeline battle being used to buff up election war chests?

Real concern, or pipeline politics?

The war over Enbridge’s Northern Gateway project is enterting a new battle, with the Liberals now accusing the NDP of using the debate, as a way to fund the party’s campaign budget.

Party fundraising letters are nothing new, but a few eyebrows are being raised over an Enbridge-themed e-mail from the NDP.

The letter asks for donations, under the banner “help say no to the Enbridge pipeline.”

Liberal MLA John Les says the campaign contradicts NDP leader Adrian Dix’s claim that he’s fighting for the good of the province, not his party.

“We see them crassly trying to just turn it into a fundraising opportunity for political purposes.”

NDP Provincial secretary Jan O’Brien disagrees.

“The majority of the B.C. population is saying the same thing we are saying which is that we cannot go ahead with this pipeline.”
