Lower Mainland mayors met Friday, one day removed from a province-wide conference call, to talk again about RCMP pay hikes, and the costs.
Langley City Mayor Peter Fassbender says the wage hikes “threw sand in the gears” for some mayors who want clarification.
When asked if any city is seriously thinking about not signing the new 20 year deal, Fassbender admitted there is some sabre rattling..
“I think there are some that are looking at it in light of it. They are well within their rights to do that but at some point they are going to have to make a decision as to whether or not they are prepared to take that step and face an immediate ten percent increase in their costs because they will have no federal contribution.”
The so-called surprise wage hikes caught some off-guard even as RCMP point out they were in budget forecasts sent to the municipalities last year.
