Mayor still mulling it over

The Mayor of Richmond is admitting saying goodbye to the RCMP and moving to another policing option is very much on the table.

When asked if merging with nearby Vancouver for the services of the VPD is on the table, Malcolm Brodie said, “The idea of teaming up with another city always would be a live option. More generally, what I think we would look at is some more of a regional service provider than just going in with Vancouver, so we are prepared to look at other options.”

Brodie wouldn’t say what those options might be but he admitted Delta Police are another choice his community might have.

Richmond is among a handful of communities holding off signing the new RCMP contract over concerns, including costs.
