While the City of Vancouver moves ahead with plans to start up a public-private bike share program, the man most likely to be BC’s next premier says he’s not interested in changing legislation requiring all cyclists wear helmets.
City staff have already conceded liability issues concerning mandatory helmets will be a problem for the program expected to cost municipal taxpayers as much as two million dollars a year.
While prominent BC Liberal Ted Dixon lobbies the government to make helmets optional, NDP leader Adrian Dix has quickly said that won’t happen under his watch.
“You know, sometimes I get accused of giving very long answers, so just to respond to that criticism, the answer to your question is no.”
Dix adds there’s plenty of medical evidence backing him up.
