More labour talks in the public service

A union chapter that represents 12-hundred public service professionals including geologists, engineers, veterinarians, and psychologists, has voted 92 percent in favour of a strike.

Brett Harper with the Professional Employees Association, says talks with the government began in January, but broke down about a month ago, “We’re going back to the bargaining table May 28th and 29th with the employer and what our hope is that we can achieve a settlement that will make our members happy.”

Harper says the union wants a sustainable, professional public service. He says there seems to be a desire to decrease the number of licensed professionals in the public service.

Harper says they’re also looking for compensation that keeps up with inflation.
