North Shore rescuers call off gear retrieval

The gear left up on the mountain during this week’s rescue of an out of bounds snowboarder is going to come down – just not today.

Tim Jones with North Shore Search and Rescue says today’s attempt had to be called off because of very unsettled conditions.

He says, “it’s very vital gear that we get but we don’t want to risk our members'” safety. Adding, “we have to be very conscious of the snow stability there because its right under an open bowl.”

Jones says the crew has plenty of equipment to get them through another rescue if the need arises before the $ 30,000 worth of equipment is retrieved.

He says they will wait until conditions are safe before a recovery mission is made — it could be tomorrow or next week.
