Mayors south of the Fraser have been told by BC’s Transportation minister a rapid-bus will be crossing the new Port Mann Bridge when it opens.
The bus had been put on hold after Translink ran into a 30-million dollar shortfall.
But vice-chair of the Mayors’ Council for Translink, Peter Fassbender, says the bus could be funded by any savings found in the ongoing Translink review.
“While I think it means we can move ahead in the short term on some very critical projects it doesn’t take any pressure off in terms of making sure that we move forward on long term sustainable funding.”
Fassbender says Blair Lekstrom told the mayors it doesn’t make sense to build park and rides and then not have the bus they are intended for in service.
