The president of the B.C. Federation of Labour says the actions of the Rocky Mountaineer board are brutal as a dispute with striking workers turns nasty.
Jim Sinclair says the company has cut down trees with strike signs on them and then tore down a taxi stand set up outside the picket lines.
“It is unbelievable really what is going on. I noticed talking to people getting out of the cabs everyone I talked to, and I talked to at least five or six groups of people coming in, none of them were told when they bought the ticket by the company that there was a labour dispute they didn’t know they were crossing the line had to cross a picket and that there was a lock out and I think that is immoral.”
Sinclair says members of the board including Peter Armstrong and John Furlong are engaged in deliberate union breaking.
He warns the strategy won’t just stain their reputations it will also impact tourism in this province.
