Six poppy pots stolen in North Vancouver

Six Remembrance Day ‘poppy pots’ have been stolen from local North Shore businesses, RCMP said Tuesday.

The small white buckets are set up by the Royal Canadian Legion to allow customers to pick up a poppy and make a donation, the funds of which go toward improving the lives of Canadian veterans.

The North Vancouver RCMP say they are taking the thefts very seriously. They are reviewing surveillance footage from the businesses and are hopeful they will catch the thieves.

“It’s very disrespectful and insulting to our war veterans,” said Cpl. Richard De Jong, spokesperson for the North Vancouver RCMP. He also noted that numerous veterans depend on the donations “to help them in time of need.”

Last Wednesday, 45-year-old Anthony Edward Britt was arrested for allegedly stealing poppy pots from a Subway in Nanaimo. He appeared in provincial court on Monday, facing four charges of theft under $ 5,000.
