The new Port Mann rapid bus may be adding another stop.
Translink executive vice president Bob Paddon says a pilot program could happen as soon as this summer for the rapid bus to stop in Surrey.
“What we are exploring with the city of Surrey right now is whether it is feasible and safe to put a stop at 156th street. the challenge that we have is that is literally just an off ramp off the highway it was never built to be bus stops and we have to have a really good look to see if it is there. There wouldn’t be park and ride capacity and it would be a very localized service.”
Paddon says there are safety concerns as it is just an on-off ramp with no built in capacity for a bus stop.
“It really has to be safe If we can address that we may look at a pilot to see if there is any real ridership there. Longer term though I think what we are all hopeful for is that we will see some development in that area where we can then see a real park and ride and a good bus bay similar to what you have out in Carvolth be put in.”
Paddon says a park and ride might happen if more development occurs around 156th street.
Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts was upset when a stop in her city was dropped from the rapid bus route when the bus debuted last year.
