Some municipalities still won’t ratify RCMP deal

Municipalities across the province are still wading through the new RCMP deal, even as more and more have chosen to ratify the contract.

Terrace Mayor David Pernarowski says his city hasn’t signed off yet, as staff try to determine the budget impact of those surprise wage hikes.

Pernarowski says Terrace will likely sign off before the end-of-May deadline — it’s just a matter of taking a look at the budget.

“(It) is always a very tricky puzzle of figuring out what to do with very limited amounts of tax dollars locally, so we are just looking at what this latest change in the pay increase meant to our actual bottom line. And we have asked our director of finance to provide that information to council.”

The City of Langley is the latest to ratify the contract, making it 24 municipalities that have signed on, so far.
