Taxpayers will have to wait to see a report on MLA expenses

An Auditor General’s report examining the legisature’s budget and MLA expenses was supposed to be released Tuesday but it has been delayed.

The NDP’s Shane Simpson says a special five member MLA’s committee and the speaker of the house have to give the okay before the report is released.

He says both NDP members have done just that..

“I recieved a copy of the report today from the clerk I was asked to review the report and to provide advice back as to whether I thought it should be released I have done that John Horgan my colleague has done that and we believe it is a significant report and it should be released as soon as possible.”

When asked if there was anything shocking in the report simpson said “It is a significant report and it is a report that I think is important that the public see we might as well get it out there and have that discussion.”

A government spokesperson says the report will instead be released later this week once MLA’s have had a chance to review it.
