The BC Government wants your input on the new Family day holiday

The Liberal government wants to hear from you about which day to set as the new Family day holiday next February.

Labour minister Margaret MacDiarmid says the government will solicit public input through a website and social media on whether to choose the second or third monday of the month as the day off.

She said “So we are going to ask people through a web based process and we are also going to have a Twitter town hall and we are going to ask people to tell us which of those Monday’s they prefer to have the holiday, or does either one work really well for them. We are going to take that feedback into consideration and make a final decision by the end of the month.”

MacDiarmid notes the third Monday would coincide with the US Presidents’ day holiday and Alberta’s Family day, which means tourist operations like ski hills will already be busy.
