The Vancouver school board has some advice on how to save millions.

Vancouver school trustees are mulling a review that suggests how they might save up to $ 16 million.

It comes as the school board draws up its 2012/2013 budget and deals with about an $ 8 million shortfall.

Chair Patti Bacchus says some ideas include centralizing where the board gets its supplies and streamlining its banking system.

She says “they’ve also suggested that we perhaps consider getting out of the Continuing Education business. That’s the recreational night-school programs that are offered in some of our high schools that actually do end up being a bit of a drain of our budget and they’re proposing that we could make over 900,000 dollars in savings just in that. “

Bacchus says they will consult on the proposals, saying some may have an impact that a team of accountants might not see.

The final budget is expected to be approved next month.
