UPDATE: Burnaby Police Shooting

The man shot by Burnaby RCMP officers early this morning has now died in hospital.

According to the “Independent Investigations Office” (IIO), the incident began shortly after 1am when police received a 9-1-1 call about a man with a knife in the 4100-block of Albert street in Burnaby.

While enroute to the call, an officer encountered a man matching the description at Hastings and MacDonald.

There was some kind of confrontation and the man was shot by police.

Seven investigators with the IIO are now on the case.

Hastings at MacDonald remains closed.
