Vancouver considers permanent Robson pedestrian plaza

A popular public plaza will remain open, continuing the closure of a section of a major street.
After some positive feedback, the City of Vancouver has announced that the 800 block of Robson between Hornby and Howe will remain a car-free zone for the rest of 2012.
City counciller Andrea Reimer says it could even become a permanent pedestrian plaza.

“That’s what we’ll be doing over the next four months. Staff will take feedback from the Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association and the public, and bring a report back to council so we can decide whether to move forward with a permanent closure.”

That stretch of Robson has seen closures over the past two summers as well as during the 2010 Winter Olympics, and Reimer says it has acted as a much-needed community hub.
