The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Vancouver is condemning yesterday’s decision by the B.C. Supreme Court that strikes down laws preventing assisted suicide.
Diocese spokesperson Paul Schratz says they are disappointed by the ruling, which allows 64-year-old ALS patient Gloria Taylor to end her life with assistance.
“There are ways that we can help people who are depressed, who are discouraged, who are in pain, and the answer isn’t to take the quick route, and help them end their life.”
The court has delayed its ruling for a year to allow parliament to consider and potentially draft relevant legislation.
