Vet report brings some relief to zoo staff

An independent veterinarian has ruled out at least one cause in the death of a giraffe at the Greater Vancouver Zoo.

Zoo General Manager Jody Henderson says with the test results comes a sense of relief, “Based on the finding, they definitely have proven that there is no indication, well, there is. Jafari had excellent body mass. The claims out there right now that the giraffe can’t live in a northern climate because they have to have proper body mass, totally defeats anything that has been said up to now.”

Henderson says they don’t know for sure what killed the giraffe but the chief suspect is some kind of intestinal  infection.

Jafari had been at the zoo for 12 years and was found dead Sunday morning.
