38 year old man going to trial on bestiality charge

A 38 year old man is going to trial on a charge of bestiality.

General Manager of cruelty investigations for the BC SPCA, Marcie Moriarty, says there was an investigation in 2010 after concerns were brought to the SPCA that Brian Cutteridge was engaging in sexual activity with his dogs.

Following the investigation, the SPCA recommended charges to Crown Counsel.

“Sexual acts against animals is a crime in Canada, thank goodness, and it also raises various animal welfare concerns for you know in this particular case, there could be concerns for the dogs with respect to a variety of medical conditions they can suffer as a result.”

Moriarty says the SPCA has not had a case in the last seven years where it has recommended charges with respect to bestiality.

According to online court documents, the offence allegedly happened in Vancouver.

Cutteridge’s next court date is March 14th.
