The BC Conservative party have moved to purge two ‘dissident’ members from their ranks after they tried to remove party leader John Cummins.
Sources within the party say the expulsion of John Crocock and Ben Besler was done for their ‘illegal’ use of the party membership list.
For his part Besler says the party can’t throw him out as he has quit and joined the BC Liberals.
“You know I have been in conversations with the BC Liberal party for the past few weeks here the reality is that I had made a conscious decision to leave the BC Conservative party I have completely lost faith in that party as it is well documented.”
Besler and Crocock were part of a faction within the party pushing for a leadership review.
A review that was rejected by 71% of the members who cast a ballot
Party leader John Cummins is taking the Besler defection well.
Cummins says he has a lot of respect for Besler as a person and wishes him well in the future.
“You never like to see these things you don’t go into politics to make enemies and cause disruption and it is never pleasant when these sorts of things happen as I say I have a lot of respect for Ben as an individual I think he is an outstanding guy it is just unfortunate that we weren’t able to come to an agreement and continue to work together.”
Besler is the latest to bolt from the BC Conservative ranks after John van Dongen quit the party, and former candidate John Martin also joined the Liberals.
