Starting on Monday, for three days, BC teachers will walk off the job. The BC Teachers Federation served strike notice at 6 this morning, giving parents the 2-full school days notice needed to satisfy the Labour Relations Board’s ruling. BCTF President Susan Lambert says its not a decision they’ve made lightly….
“But the conditions in schools have worsened over a decade…we’ve watched our class sizes increase, the complexity of class composition become so untenable, that it has caused us a high degree of anxiety, that we are unable to meet the needs of each and every student.”
Lambert says Bill 22 tabled on Tuesday makes it obvious teachers have been pleading to deaf ears. She calls the legislation, which levels hefty fines for teachers who strike after the Bill is passed, the most appalling sign of disrespect.
