The provincial government says the latest contract demands from the BC Teachers Federation would cost taxpayers an extra two billion dollars over three years.
That figure is in stark contrast to the BCTF’s estimate of only 300 million dollars in its so-called scaled-down demands. The Public School Employers Association says the first year alone would cost 500 million, and a three year deal with cost of living allowances would top two billion….and that still does not include all of the Unions’ demands. The government is still insisting on a net zero mandate. Meanwhile the BCTF complains the employers have yet to submit a counter-proposal as negotiations continue today.
