Greens don’t buy into carbon tax changes

Despite assurances by BC’s Environment Minister, the carbon tax is here to stay and the Provincial Green Party is not sold.

Leader Jane Sterk says all the signs point to the BC Liberal Government putting the program on the chopping block, “I would not be at all surprised if they decided to scrap the carbon tax. There is lots of language that they used. No other jurisdiction has a carbon tax, even though that is not true. The problems with competitveness for our businesses, the problems for our food industry, it all smacked to me of a decision to discard the carbon tax.”

Sterk says the Government might choose to scrap the carbon tax just before next years provincial election in order to woo voters.

She says the Green would increase the carbon tax to 50 dollars a tonne and reform it so it isn’t a tax on tax.
