The early elimination of the Vancouver Canucks from the Stanley Cup playoffs has devastated fans, but local taxpayers are off the hook for more than a million dollars in policing costs.
If the team had gone all the way like last year, Vancouver Police were predicting the total cost of making sure everyone stays safe would have cost nearly 1.1-million dollars.
Because the Canucks were bounced out in the first round, security predictions presented to city council last month drop significantly down to less than 68-thousand dollars.
Total costs for policing last year’s play-offs which culminated in the riot on June 15th was 1.3-million dollars.
Last week, the VPD reported an extra two-million dollars has been spent since then investigating the riot.
