Teachers wonder why they weren’t treated like the BCGEU

The BC Teachers Federation wants to know why another union will have an independent mediator in their talks with government.

President Susan Lambert was surprised to hear the LRB appointed a mediator in the BC Government Employees Union contract talks.

Lambert says a few months ago they and the employer agreed to have the LRB do the same thing but instead, Bill 22 was passed, “And we were very frustrated by that point because we felt an LRB appointed mediator would be neutral and objective and have the skills necessary to address the complexities of our dispute so we couldn’t understand why one wasn’t appointed immediately.”

The Teachers Union is waiting for a Judges decision as they try to have government- appointed mediator Doctor Charles Jago fired.
