The NDP Energy critic says something isn’t right, as BC Hydro removes 1000 Smart Meters.

BC Hydro is taking newly installed smart meters off of 1000 homes and re-installing another meter in its place.

Hydro initially saying they were checking the meters for accuracy and there ‘might’ be some kind of an issue.

The news had NDP Energy critic John Horgan outraged, after hearing complaints about billing..

He said “Clearly the thousands and thousands of people who were expressing a discontent at the intrusion on their property is not bad enough now we hear about a massive recall of meters to ensure they are measuring accurately I have heard from dozens and dozens and dozens of people around BC that have seen massive spikes in their Hydro bills over the past number of months.”

Horgan says something is obviously awry and BC Hydro should take steps to address the issue.

He said “If they believe they have a problem with measurement they should cease implementation right now. Stop putting them on houses until you can verify that they are measuring accurately and ratepayers aren’t being gouged. To continue on with the implementation when you clearly have a problem is wrong headed and they should reassess their plan.”

Horgan says there might be many who simply aren’t checking their bills and the problem could be much more widespread.
