Tribunal could bypass Court congestion for strata owners

The Executive Director of the Condominium Home Owners Association of BC is hopeful a planned tribunal to resolve strata and small civil claims outside the court system, will be successful.

Tony Gioventu says his association has been part of the development and consultation process around the Civil Resolution Tribunal Act, “The tribunal process is going to be quicker, hopefully, the anticipation it will be much less expensive, and we won’t be seeing the long waits as a result of the congestion in the courts.”

If the Act is passed, an independent tribunal will offer dispute resolution tools online anytime of day.

The Provincial Government says it expects solving a dispute through the tribunal would take about 60 days, small claims court would take 12 to 18 months.
