Water levels in lower Fraser expected to rise

Thousands of people are on evacuation alert throughout the province, with 165 receiving orders to evacuate their homes, and that number could grow.

Water levels are expected to rise in the Lower Fraser as built up water from melting snow and heavy rain works its way downstream, according to River Forecast Centre Head, David Campbell.

“We are expecting to see additional rises through the weekend. At the mission gauge we’re currently at 6.4 metres and we’re expecting that to get up to the 6.6 or 6.65 range through Monday.

Campbell adds that as the water works its way downstream, the water levels likely won’t increase as much as they are expected to around Mission.
