A fire in Chilliwack has cut cell phone and internet service for many.

Cell phone and internet customers in Chilliwack are reporting trouble with their service.

Telus spokesperson Shawn Hall says a major fibre optic cable has been damaged.

“But it looks like a fairly significant structure fire has burned through some Telus cable taking some wireless service and some internet service out it is not affecting home phone service so if your cell phone is not working your home phone will still work because we run those through different paths.”

Hall says at this point, because the fire is still burning, he can’t give an estimation when service will be restores.

Bell and Shaw customers are also being affected.
