The BC Government and Service Employees’ Union has high hopes for Tuesday’s budget.
They’re calling for improvements to areas they argue have been hit by rampant cuts.
The union cites examples as seniors, the developmentally-disabled, the courts, prisons and parks.
President Darryl Walker is also calling on the government to re-think its plan to balance the budget by 2013.
“We’re kind of concerned that if we’re looking to balance the budget that quickly, once again we may be into a round of cuts, nevermind the services we can’t provide now, but another round of cuts is simply something I think British Columbians can’t afford.”
Walker says other ideas, such as keeping liquor stores open on Sundays, would only serve as revenue generators for the province.
Also among the unon’s hopes, new contracts which lift the pay freeze.
