The BCTF’s day of action has switched from the classroom to the streets as teachers prepare to take a strike vote.
It only took about ten minutes from the time classes were dismissed for 1st avenue to be flooded with teachers, union supporters, students, and even a large group of parents.
One parent said “I think that in order to be heard they are having to make an very extreme demand.”
Many passing drivers are also showed their support by honking and waving.
Teachers vote tomorrow and Wednesday on escalating their job action into a full scale walk out.
They will also appear before the Labour Relations Board tonight to seek approval for such an increase as well as to ask for a mediator to be appointed.
