Transit fare cheats still not paying up

Despite a change in legislation to force fare cheats to pay their fines, Translink says they aren’t yet seeing much of a difference. Part of Kits base taken down

The Kitsilano Coast Guard station is being dismantled. Last week the federal government followed through on its decision to shut the base down. Today, trucks rolled in and workers started tearing down the base. The move saves 700 thousand dollars a year and the feds say proper resources are in place, so safety won't be compromised. Berner applies for leave to appeal conviction at Supreme Court of Canada

Carol Berner, the Delta woman who caused the death of Alexa Middelaer in 2008, is trying to have her conviction overturned at the Supreme Court of Canada. Berner filed leave to appeal her guilty verdict in Ottawa earlier this month, after a lower court turned her down last fall.
